A small amount of hair will be shaved from the scalp around the ear and the skin will be cleaned of moisture of oils.
The base piece made of Velcro and with an adhesive approved for use in children is then applied.
Ear conformers covered with Velcro are then placed along the rim of the ear to normalize the shape and set the ear into the proper position. The Velcro feature allows for the removal and replacement of the conformers by your physician until the deformity is corrected. This feature allows for customization of the correction to precisely fit your child’s ear.
The flexible rim piece is then applied to the base and conformers to stabilize the construct.
Clear matrix material (silicone) is then injected between the conformers, rim piece, and into the newly created ear folds. This further customizes the correction and binds these small parts together so they will not be dislodged. The matrix material also serves to distribute the force over the entire ear minimizing the chance of abnormal pressure on the ear.
The InfantEar cap is applied as is an infant beanie, which will help protect the device from dislodgment.
